For most of us, running out of space tends to have a simple solution. Delete some e-mails, fill some bags for donation, or simply taking a drive out to the dump – boom – you’ve got yourself some more room to play with. Unfortunately, for the BC Children’s Hospital, which services 1 million youth living in BC and the Yukon, constrained space can’t be solved by a purge or a drive; however, a few clicks might just do.

As you may recognize from last weeks Applied Arts post, Anthony Redpath’s GiveSpace campaign from ad space DARE Vancouver focuses heavily on the plight faced by a hospital with increasing patient numbers and longer hospital stays (among other limiting factors). We’ll take a look at more from the campaign before we pass the mic over to Anthony for his big Blog debut.

It feels really good to do work for the community. It’s a way to give back, and the creative opportunity is a bonus. The BC Children’s Hospital provides an invaluable service to the community and and the place is packed with people. Anything that can be done to help them build a new facility is a good thing. The shots themselves took a substantial effort to pull off, but I’m really happy with the results. And in the end, they are for a great cause (and great client!).

To execute the images as realistically as possible, we shot the talent in the hospital, using real rooms as sets and actual equipment for props. Shooting in a busy, working hospital was quite the challenge.

We built the outer edges of the rooms and shot those in a studio situation, while the warehouse backgrounds were shot on location and altered to fit our compositions. In two of the executions, some CG elements were employed in combination with the photographic elements (one of the executions is photographic plates only).

With patio season upon us, and it being an overcast day here in Toronto, what better time to show off the latest addition to the summer brew lineup – Molson Canadian Wheat – a Canadian-style unfiltered wheat beer featuring a rich golden colour and natural cloudiness.

In order to to highlight both of these qualities in the stills campaign, Rethink brought Shanghoon onboard to work his studio magic and the result is a mouthwatering one. Take a look.

There’s a plethora of visual delights packed into the 162 pages of this years Applied Arts Photography & Illustration Awards issue, and selected works aside, that ChorusArt Silk 80lb paper combined with Mi5′s UV Pro-Brite printing process sure is a sexy sight. Happy Thursday People! Can you believe it’s finally nice out?!? Birds chirping, sun shining, cyclists riding illegally, I just love it! Needless to say, you all should take tomorrow off and enjoy, cuz this won’t be around long.

In other news, WE NOW REPRESENT ANTHONY REDPATH!!! Very exciting for everyone here at Westside Studio, Anthony and we hope, you as well.

Anthony has many years of experience and established networks across Canada. He still resides in B.C. and will continue to do so, but is always happy to travel for any opportunity that might arise.

Despite taking place last Monday, the following bit of Westside news is a morsel that several Torontonians will surely savour for a lifetime.

Following the events that occurred at the Boston Marathon, a blogger by the name of PavementRunner put out a call to runners worldwide, asking any and all to join in running #BOSTONSTRONG on April 22nd, one week following the Boston race. Producer extrordinare Phaedra Kennedy – having completed the marathon with a time of 3:16:02 – was quick to answer the calling and immediately began organizing #BostonStrong Toronto: West End Edition.

I’m proud to say that we had over 50 runners show up and almost every single one of them was wearing blue and yellow. We even had our own cheering section with cowbells. I met a whole bunch of new people, finally got to hug everyone in my run group and did my first run since Boston. My legs may have been heavy but my heart was light. It was such a wonderful experience and I’m thankful to everyone that came out to show their support. Love you all! xo ~ P
